Element 118 - Oganesson
Element 118 is a synthetic element in the periodic table that has the atomic number 118. It is also known as ununoctium.
It is a member of the noble gases group and is expected to have similar properties to other elements in this group, such as low reactivity and a full valence shell.
Element 118 was first synthesized in 2002 by a team of scientists at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR) in Dubna, Russia and the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) in California, USA. They used a technique called "cold fusion" to fuse isotopes of calcium and californium to create atoms of element 118.
Due to its extremely short half-life and difficulty to produce, as of now, only a few atoms of element 118 have ever been created and studied. It is considered a "transactinide" element, meaning it is located beyond the end of the actinide series in the periodic table, where elements are increasingly difficult to produce and study
