Name the following.

1. The element which the most Electro-negativity in nature.
Ans: Fluorine

2. The element which has highest Electron Affinity value.
Ans: Chlorine

3. The metalloid present in Period 3 of the Periodic Table.
Ans: Silicon

4. The element present in Period 3 with 3 valence electrons.
Ans: Aluminium

5. The noble gas which does not have octet configuration.
Ans: Helium

State/ Give one term for the following statements.
1. The tendency of an element to attract electrons to itself when in combined state.
Ans: Electro-negativity

2. The minimum amount of energy to be supplied to an isolated gaseous atom of an element to remove one valence electron.
Ans: Ionization Potential

3. The amount of energy released when an atom of an element accepts one electron into its valence shell.
Ans: Electron affinity

4. The tendency to lose electrons easily.
Ans: Metallic character

Give reason:
1. Atomic radius decreases across a period.
Ans: The nuclear charge increases across the period but the number of shells remain same. Hence the nuclear pull increases on the valence shell which causes decrease in Atomic radius (Atomic size).

2. Electro-negativity increases across a period.
Ans: The nuclear pull increases on the valence electrons hence Electronegativity increases.

3. Metallic character increases down a Group.
Ans: The number of shells increases down the group which predominates the nuclear pull on the valence electrons. Hence the atoms loses the valence electrons readily and its metallic  character increases.

State how :
1. Electron Affinity changes across a period.
Ans: Electron Affinity increases across a period.

2. Ionization Potential  (I.P) changes down the Group.
Ans: I.P decreases down the group.

Arrange the following set of elements as described in brackets.
1. Mg, Na, Cl, P (Increasing order of Electro-negativity)
Ans: Na, Mg, P, Cl

2. Br, Cl, I, F (decreasing order of E.A)
Ans: Cl, F, Br, I

3. Ba, Be, Mg, Ca (decreasing order of Metallic character)
Ans: Ba, Ca, Mg, Be
