Here are some practice questions for your self test. It can be used for a quick revision test o Identification of anions from practical chemistry For ICSE class 10 students.

a) Identify the anion present in the given salt in each of the following cases.


1. This salt when treated with a dilute acid gives effervescence of a colourless gas which turns lime water milky but has no effect on acidified Potassium permanganate.

2. A salt which produces a colourless gas when a dilute acid is added and that gas turns acidified Potassium dichromate to clear green solution.

3. A salt on thermal decomposition gives a reddish brown fumes and these fumes give violet vapours with Potassium iodide crystals.

4. This salt solution gives a white precipitate with Silver nitrate solution which dissolves in excess Ammonium hydroxide.

5. This salt solution gives a white precipitate with Barium chloride solution and the precipitate is insoluble in dilute acid.

6. This salt solution on treating with freshly prepared Ferrous sulphate followed by Conc. Sulphuric acid drops added alongside of test tube walls, gives a brown ring at the junction of two liquids.



b) Differentiate between the following pairs of salts:

1. Sulphate salt and Sulphite salt using Barium chloride solution
2. Sulphite salt and Carbonate salt using a dilute and acidified Potassium permanganate.

b) 
1. A salt containing Sulphate ion gives a white precipitate with Barium chloride which is insoluble in a dilute acid but the salt containing Sulphite ion gives a white precipitate which dissolves in a dilute acid.

2. A sulphite salt gives a colourless gas which turns lime water milky and decolourises acidified Potassium permaganate. where as a carbonate salt with a dilute acid gives a colorless gas which turns lime water milky but has no effect on acidified Potassium permanganate.
