LABORATORY PREPARATION OF NITRIC ACID - Class 10 - ICSE

LABORATORY PREPARATION OF NITRIC ACID

The following diagram describes the set up of the apparatus while preparation of Nitric acid by Laboratory method.
The reactants used in this method are Concentrated Sulphuric acid and Potassium nitrate/ Sodium nitrate.
The entire apparatus used in this method is made up of Glass only. The vapours of Nitric acid are highly corrosive and attack rubber or cork.

The Nitric acid prepared in this method appears with yellow tinge due to dissolved Nitrogen dioxide in it which is formed as a result of thermal decomposition of Nitric acid.

ICSE CHEMISTRY - DIAGRAM DEMONSTRATING CATALYTIC OXIDATION OF AMMONIA GAS

ICSE CHEMISTRY - DIAGRAM DEMONSTRATING CATALYTIC OXIDATION OF AMMONIA GAS

Ammonia gas undergoes oxidaiton in presence of Nickel to give Nitric oxide which when passed into round bottom flask filled with Oxygen gas turn to reddish brown Nitrogen dioxide gas.
